How the Combination of E-Mobility and RoadTrains Opens the Door to a Sustainable Transport Future
Electromobility is entering more and more sectors, and logistics is certainly no exception. While electric passenger vehicles have long become a common sight on the roads, the heavy-duty truck segment is slower to follow this trend. At HOPI Logistics, however, we are convinced that electric trucks have the potential to change the game. That’s why we are deploying the Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 in RoadTrain mode, specifically on the Jažlovice–Prostějov route. We believe that this combination is the answer to the growing need for sustainable logistics.
One of the greatest innovations of the eActros is its ability to cover a range of over 500 km on a single charge. This means the electric truck is no longer limited to short urban deliveries. Its extended range allows for deployment on medium and even longer routes, opening the door to wider regional transport use.
To fully leverage the potential of the eActros, we’ve decided to deploy it in RoadTrain mode – a configuration with a maximum capacity of up to 102 pallets. This combination offers several key advantages:
At HOPI Logistics, we rely on an e-surcharge per transported pallet. This covers the additional costs of electromobility and is charged only when the e-truck is actually used. In other words, if your goods are truly transported by this electric truck, you pay the surcharge as an investment in eco-friendly transport.
Even though operating costs of electric trucks – especially for fuel and tolls – are significantly lower, the total transport costs remain higher for now. The main reason is the high purchase price of an electric truck, which is approximately 2.5 times higher than a diesel equivalent. This puts a strain on fixed costs and is the key reason why transport using e-trucks is currently more expensive, despite lower operating expenses.
Participation in projects that actively reduce carbon footprints will play an increasingly important role in the decisions of business partners and consumers. Heavy freight transport is often criticized for high CO₂ emissions, so deploying electric trucks in logistics is a logical and forward-looking step. For companies aiming for green innovation and meeting their ESG goals, partnering with HOPI Logistics offers a concrete and measurable benefit.
If you are interested in ways to optimize your logistics flows while actively reducing emissions, we’d be happy to present our eActros 600 RoadTrain project in more detail. Our solution is designed to be accessible and flexible for all kinds of partners – from small producers to large corporations who value innovation and social responsibility.
